There are many reasons that a windshield may need repair from a rock hitting the glass and causing a small chip to a crack. You may not believe this small blemish is anything to worry about, but you should realize that the crack could grow especially with temperature changes. If you decide to have the windshield repaired, you may just believe your auto insurance will cover the costs.

Roadside assistance is another issue in which you may need to have the car towed for whatever reason. Once again, you may just call the tow company and expect your car insurance to cover the costs.

Now, comes the worst part of all, you file a claim with your insurance company and learn they do not cover windshield repair or roadside assistance. The truth of the matter is that some insurance companies will cover both of these options while most do not. With the companies that offer these features in their policies, the premiums are often higher than ones that do not include these services. The best way to learn if you truly want these benefits is by checking with your insurance company and learn the costs of adding these benefits to your policy if the services are not covered.

If the insurance company does include these services with your policy you are in luck as the repair to the windshield will not cost you any money at all and you can find that these repairs can be performed at your home, office, or even motel room if you are traveling with the issue occurs. The policies that offer windshield repair may not on the other hand, cover total replacement.

If your windshield is damaged, you should contact your insurance company to learn what is covered under your policy. You may find they prefer repairing over replacement for many different reasons include keeping windshield out of the landfills, as the glass used to create windshields is not recyclable due to the layers of glass used in their creation. In some cases, your insurance company may arrange with the company to repair your windshield or they may give you the option of choosing your own repair company.

When you talk about roadside assistance, this is always a wonderful option in case of any issues with your car that you are unable to fix on the side of the road. Having this coverage allows you to be able to have your vehicle towed and the insurance pay the costs. This can be a very welcome coverage option especially when traveling.
