Everyone that drives on the roadways needs car insurance whether what is mandated by law or to protect themselves, their car, and their family in the case of an auto accident.
The major question most drivers ask is how much auto insurance do they really need. The answer is different for each person and depends on his or her finances. For those that own a very expensive car, the more insurance the better to not only pay for repairs that are needed but to also replace the car if the car is completely totaled in an accident.
If the vehicle is old and not an antique then you may not need as much insurance on the car. Comprehensive car insurance is more expensive for older cars just as this type of insurance is more costly for teen drivers.
The insurance you must have by law in most states is liability insurance that will cover others property and injuries that might be sustained in an accident. However, this insurance will not cover your car or any injuries you may have experienced in the wreck.
The best way to learn how much auto insurance you need is by considering what you can afford. This can also be difficult as you will want to pay the lowest possible amount which is liability, but then if the accident has landed you in the hospital and your car needs repairs, the insurance will not cover these costs and you will have to pay all for all repairs, a rental car until your car is repaired, and all your medical bills, while you are unable to go to work due to your injuries.
You need to look at your circumstances in order to decide the amount of auto insurance you truly need. Some of the questions you need to answer include are you leasing a vehicle, do you live in an area where vandalism is high on cars, and can you afford to be sued for injuries or damages?
If you are leasing a car and the car is damaged, stolen, or is an accident, you will be responsible for the value of the car to the company you are leasing from unless you have proper auto insurance. If you live in an area where cars are vandalized and you do not have insurance to cover costs such as comprehensive, you will have to pay for any repairs. If you do not have liability insurance and another person is injured in an accident in which you were involved, they can sue you for the money they need for medical care. The best way for you to find affordable car insurance is by comparing. One insurance company can offer insurance rates in some cases, hundred of dollars less than another one and may even offer better benefits. Getting the most coverage for your money is the best solution, so the first step if finding affordable insurance that will provide you with the protection you need.
